Random objects in my house have become like my aging knee joints – after they’ve been sitting in one place for awhile, I can’t move them without hearing some complaining.
Haha I think we all have to be insane with all the crazy challenges we face, and I still have years ahead of me 😩
You are so right, it is comforting for them which definitely makes it a bit easier to cope with all the things everywhere. That's so interesting about unpacking quickly so he doesn't memorise, I never would have thought about that, I love how you have worked so many idiosyncrasies out (if that's what they would be called).
I only think about these things, figure out (sometimes) how to manage them, because I've lived with this kiddo for awhile! ;) You'll figure it out, too, and Mars will kindly give you plenty of practice. Hoping you can maintain your sanity a little anyway... :)
Haha he most certainly does give us a lot of practice! And you are so right, you need to be in it to learn really and I need to remember it's one day at a time and new challenges arise and it's figuring out what does and doesn't work.
This is so good, you are amazing to not go completely insane! I do have some feelings on wishing Mars was this tidy and orderly though haha. But there is probably no balance. Does he still work this way or is he more adaptable now?
We have found that when Mars gets any new figurines of animals or dinosaurs, they don't get to join the collection for a period of time. I am not sure if he has a set period of time in his head or he just all of a sudden decides to just add them to the collection. If we try to then they get moved back to their display spot as soon as he notices. Unfortunately it is never somewhere that is out of the way, it's the middle of the floor, on a chair or in a doorway. We just have to leave them til he is ready to introduce them to the others.
Who said I'm not insane? ;) You're right, there is no balance and we still constantly argue over what is "cleaned up" or "put away" because his definition and mine are not the same!
Oh, yes, we had so much the same thing with my kiddo's toys, he had certain patterns and groupings, and no new toys could be added in the mix. Gift-giving is still very challenging because he doesn't really seem to want new things. And yes, where the toys lived was often somewhere inconvenient like the center of a living room chair. He has trained me to unpack - from shopping or after a trip - quickly before he memorizes where bags "should" be... I try to remember that these things are comforting to him, trying to make sense of his space and his stuff (just wish he didn't also want to arrange MY stuff so much :)
