Thanks Robin, I have been wanting to write so much! If it has been so chaotic I just haven't had a chance to sit down. I have been working on special applications for Mars as he is finally starting school in February as he will be 6 and that's the legal requirement here even though most kids start at 5, we just held out as he hasn't been ready. I still don't feel he is ready and he is only going to be attending three mornings a week for the first term. Fingers crossed it goes ok. Feeling pretty nervous!

Oh boy, good luck to Mars, and to you... I bet he's more ready than you think - fingers crossed for you, too. It is so nerve-wracking, I know. Can't wait to hear about it...!

I hope so! It's so hard, everyday he is asking to go to school and isn't understanding when we say it's still a few weeks a way, it's like counting down to Christmas all over again!

My daughter has more words, but struggles to use them most of the time. I understand that bubble wrap feeling x

Yes, it is hard to watch them struggle, and so incredible to watch them when they succeed. Happy New Year to you all!

Robin, this is moving and bittersweet and lovingly written. I'd happily read your words even without a son of my own who is quite different from other children. There isn't a lot written on the unique experience of having a kid who doesn't fit many of the existing molds and how it feels to navigate the world alongside them. Thank you giving a voice to what it's like.

Lovely Robin. There is something so beautiful about the moments of joy and delight you draw out of your sons progress — it it touching.

Happy new year! I’m looking forward to reading more of your pieces in 2024
