Hi! This is the first in a new series of “Post Cards” I’m hoping to send you occasionally, in between my longer posts/podcasts – an “It’s Like This” snapshot in 200 words or less!
Greetings! Hope the weather is fine where you are! Over here, it’s like this:
I encouraged my kid to join me for a walk – to pick up some things at a nearby shopping center – by promising him we could get lunch at Burger King. A smart idea, I thought, to incentivize some exercise. Except after we completed my errands (talking up our pending Burger King treat the whole time), we found the BK door locked. The sign said, we’re short-staffed so our dining room is closed – sorry for the inconvenience – but drive-thru is open!
I turn around to see a long line of six or more cars. My wheel-less kid is pulling on the door handle, increasingly inconvenienced. This could be bad. Could we stand in line on the pavement? Ask one of the drivers to take our order? No…we can do this! OK, change of plans (super happy tone) I guess only people in cars get BK today, we will go get the car and come back – I promise, I promise! We (quickly) walked back home and returned in-car to wait in the long line at the drive-thru. Finally at home – with a bigger burger than I’d intended for him to have – all was right in our world again. We are practicing our flexibility!!
That’s the view from here - more soon!
LOL! Glad that worked out. Short-staffed is the theme du jour. BK, DDD, doctors, nurses, Behavioral health, hospitals.....everywhere in general. If only parenting could use that as an excuse.....”Sorry kiddo, we’re short-staffed out here. There’s only one (or two) of us. Can’t be your Hab/Respite/Attendant/ABA/Behavior Coach/Therapist/Nutritionist/Caregiver/Housekeeper/Short-order cook/Cleaner/Driver/Guardian/Interpreter etc etc etc.” 😜
